What drinks harm our teeth? During September we were learning about our bodies. We investigated how drinks harm our teeth. Each pod used a different liquid. We placed a hard boiled egg into each cup and poured the liquid in. To ensure it was a fair test, each pod poured the same amount of liquid in. The enamel on our teeth is similar to the egg shells. We used Coke, Coke zero, orange juice, lime cordial, Mouthwash and water, We predicted which liquids we think would be the most harmful to the eggs. We will compare each eggshell to the control eggshell which was placed in water.
The Results: The water had no changes. The mouthwash slightly lightened the egg and it was hard. The Coke Zero had dark stains in patches on the egg shell. The Coke stained the entire egg. It wasn't as dark as the Coke Zero but was all over the egg. The Miwadi melted the shell away on parts of the egg and it smelt bad. The orange juice grew fungus, mould and hairs on the egg. The eggshell was blistered and parts of it were gone. We had a lot of fun doing this experiment. We learned some of the liquids that we love can be really bad for your teeth.
Rocket Launch
We had lots of fun investigating how rockets launch. Working in our pods, we did a rocket launch. First we blew up a balloon and let it go. We watched it fly around the room. Then we decided to control the path of the balloon by connecting it to a straw on a piece of string. We tied the string to two chairs. We blew up a balloon and kept it closed using a clothes peg. We attached it to the side of the string using sellotape. Then we removed the peg and the balloon flew along the string like a rocket. The air coming out the back of the balloon pushed the balloon forward like a rocket. We investigated a rocket launch using two balloons.
Solar Panelled Car Seven of us stayed behind after the Communion photos and we built a Knex solar panelled car. We had fun investigating solar energy.
